The experts can’t possibly cover every scenario, but expect a hearty discussion on such topics as failure to search and/or produce, options for asserting privilege claims after production, the use of “claw backs” and “quick peeks,” and the impact of the proposed amendment to Rule 502 of the Federal Rules of Evidence. TOPIC: Cost Containment: - The Cost Equation. – Helpful
Hints for Economizing. – Vendors and Cost Containment.
One of the greatest cost factors in ED processing is the
reliance on the single page TIFF file format. This page-centric
paradigm has been inherited from the days of handling single
pieces of paper for copying, Bates numbering or scanning, with
its subsequent per page pricing model.
Problems such as maintaining the relationship of the pages in a document, documents with embedded files or the relationship of an email with its attachment could be handled by a manual QC review process. And single page review of large documents could be done on a computer monitor in a manner similar to looking at individual pieces of paper. But in today’s litigation environment, where millions of pages of documents are commonplace, this process is no longer reliable or cost effective. Modern docucentric litigation support applications, including CaseLogistix, use a relational database which stores the data about a document in multiple tables, not individual pages. This process supports advanced features and functionality, such as de-duping and concept searching, extracts all the text and metadata from a native file and establishes one document with pointers to all the associated pages or attachments. Equally important, this docucentric model eliminates the separate text extraction and single page TIFF designation that the page centric requires at the onset of the processing stage and thus cuts the cost of processing in half. The docucentric approach is, then, faster, cheaper, technologically superior and easier to use. Applications that retain the paradigm of the page and not the document will not be able to adequately support the demands of modern litigation. Vendors that understand this will be the most cost effective and efficient at processing your documents. Close... |
